Recreation
Norway is known as much for its recreational
opportunities as it is for its historic downtown.
Just one block off Main Street, Ordway Grove offers a short hike under ancient oaks and pines. At the Grove's shores, Witt Swamp is rich with a wildlife adventure. On the outskirts of downtown Norway, Lake Pennesseewassee Park has a public boat launch, fishing, picnicking, swimming and recreational courts. Thanks to a generous grant from New Balance, there is an upgraded playground and fitness trail. Got a boat? Head out onto the lake for some fine sailing, fishing, waterskiing or just plain cruising.
The annual Norway Triathlon offers fun and excitement to racers on a lovely course on and around the lake. The Roberts Farm Preserve overlooks Lake Penneseewassee and offers a trail system for year-round non-motorized recreation. West of town is the Norway Country Club's 9-hole golf course with spectacular views is open to the public.
Quiet, scenic roads for cyclists and distance runners are available from downtown Norway extending to the hills of the countryside. The winter season in Norway invites all to snowmobile, ice-fish, skate, snowshoe and cross-country ski.
In downtown Norway on Cottage Street, Norway's Department of Recreation maintains sports fields, tennis courts and an outdoor ice skating rink for the public.
